Case Study: Nepean High School’s Portable Stage Journey

Case Study - Portable Stage

Flexibility and versatility are crucial in all aspects of school operations. When it comes to performance and assembly areas, portable staging emerges as an invaluable solution.

Transtage Sales Manager Peter Giblin highlights the widespread use of portable stages in schools, even when a permanent stage is already present in the school hall. “The portable stage adds a significant level of flexibility to the school’s usage,” Peter explains. “Since most permanent stages are constructed at fixed sizes, the portable stage can seamlessly extend the stage’s dimensions when larger events necessitate more space.”

“Moreover, due to its portability, a portable stage can be set up anywhere within the school premises, whether indoors or outdoors,” Peter continues. “This eliminates the constraint of location on event hosting. The addition of portable stages alongside permanent ones offers schools a multitude of possibilities in event setup.”

Nepean High School has embraced the benefits that portable staging offers. In 2019, the school invested in 28 square meters of staging from Transtage. The stage’s ease of setup, transport, and storage impressed the school administration so much that they are currently in the process of doubling their inventory of portable staging.

“When assisting schools in selecting the right portable stage solution, our first step is to understand their intended usage, as each school has unique requirements,” Peter elaborates. “Nepean High School approached us seeking a solution.”

“They needed a stage that was easy to set up, allowing maintenance staff or teachers, with the assistance of senior students, to handle the setup. Additionally, it needed to be compact enough to fit into their already crowded storage rooms, and portable enough for setup in various locations depending on the event.”

“Based on these requirements, we proposed a solution: a 7m x 4m stage capable of accommodating small to medium events,” Peter explains. “With the stage deck weighing only 36 kg, it can be easily set up by two people. Additionally, we provided the school with a transportation trolley that allows them to pack the entire stage into a compact unit. This not only fits into their storage room but also makes it convenient to move the stage to the desired location.”

“One of the standout features of Transtage’s portable stage is its modular design, akin to a LEGO system, allowing panels to be added when needed,” Peter highlights.

“Nepean High School reached out to us again this year, requesting more stage decks as they require an even larger stage.”

Peter recommends portable stages for all schools as an excellent option to enhance the size and functionality of fixed stages, facilitate event setup indoors and outdoors, and provide flexibility regarding performance size and location.
